Wind Bands have a long and rich history throughout Spain, and our spring concert will explore this aspect of Spanish culture by inviting the renowned director and educator Juan José Navarro to help lead the Triangle Wind Ensemble for our concert, A Spanish Spring. Mr. Navarro is music director of the Symphony Orchestra and Choir of the Almería University, San Indalecio Wind Symphony Orchestra, and teacher at the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Música of Almeria in Andalusia.
Selections for this concert will include Memorias de un hombre de ciudad (Memoirs of a City Man) by Luis Serrano Alarcón, El Olimpo de los Dioses (The Gods of Olympus), a suite by Oscar Navarro, the Gran Jota from the opera La Dolores by Tomás Breton, and El Torico de la Cuerda, also by Alarcón—a modern pasodoble, a dance form modeled after a traditional Spanish bullfight. . . and more!
