Odysseys
This first concert of our 2016-17 season features two cornerstone compositions which highlight wind band literature at its finest. John Mackey's Wine-Dark Sea is a powerful sonic representation of the journey taken by Odysseus as he returned to his home of Ithaca after the Trojan War. Poseidon's tumultuous waves are transformed by Mackey into off-kilter rhythms and melodies which will leave audiences mesmerized and delighted. The other half of our concert will feature Leonard Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, which contains many of the most loved selections from the famous musical.
