Music for a Lifetime
Holly Springs High School Auditorium
Evan Feldman, conductor March 11, 2016 7:30pm Triangle Wind Ensemble (TWE) is an adult volunteer wind band composed of some of the finest wind and percussion players in the Triangle region. The group is a resident organization of the Cary Arts Center, and performs primarily at the CAC and the Koka Booth Amphitheatre. TWE is directed by Dr. Evan Feldman, Associate Professor of Conducting and Conductor of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Bands at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
One of TWE’s educational programs is MUSIC FOR A LIFETIME, a series of annual concerts in which TWE partners with a superior high school wind ensemble in Wake, Durham, or Orange County. Most of these concerts also include coaching of the high school students by Dr. Feldman, and include side-by-side performance of at least one challenging piece that both bands play together. Each ensemble also performs pieces from its current repertory. Concerts are generally given in a high school auditorium and are open to parents, family, and the public. Among the schools that TWE has partnered with are the ensembles at Cary High School, Enloe High School, Cary Academy, Holly Springs High School, Green Hope High School, Durham School of the Arts, and Cedar Ridge High School. Two goals of these concerts is to provide an opportunity for constructive feedback to the high school students and for the students to be inspired by the commitment and accomplishment of the adult musicians, many of whom are themselves music educators. In March of 2016 TWE plans to collaborate with Fuquay-Varina High School and Holly Springs High School. Since Fuquay-Varina’s auditorium in inadequate to host this event, Mr. Michael Biasi, Chairman of the Fine Arts Department at Holly Springs, has offered to host the concert at his excellent facility. Although the Holly Springs students will not be performing, some of them will assist as announcers and technical staff for the event. |
