When and where does the ensemble rehearse?

The ensemble rehearses each Tuesday night from 7:30 until 9:30 at Durham School of the Arts in Durham during the performance seasons. Typically, the fall season runs from September to early December, and the winter/spring season from January through May.

What are the principles that govern the operation of the Triangle Wind Ensemble?

  1. Admission by audition.
The sole purpose of audition is to assure that candidates can play at a level consistent with the goals of the group.

  2. Parts rotated through sections.
All interested players get an opportunity to play some first parts. Inner parts are just as important to the success of the group as first parts.

  3. Supportive and collaborative environment.
The goal is to bring out the best in each musician and to improve their ensemble playing skills.

  4. Group has a role in music selection.
This is not left entirely to the conductors.

  5. Music is drawn from the entire Wind Ensemble repertoire.
While the Triangle Wind Ensemble emphasizes material originally composed for wind ensemble, we play everything from circus marches to wind symphonies.

  6. Opportunities for solo and small ensemble performances.
Concerts provide opportunities for solo and small ensemble performances as well performances by the full Wind Ensemble.

How is Triangle Wind Ensemble funded?

Dues, donations, grants and concert proceeds. Dues are currently $60 per year per member, payable at the start of the fall season.
