Robert C. Hunter grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina attending the public schools of Cumberland County.  Upon graduation from Seventy-First High School in 1985 Robert elected to work for his father for a year before entering college.  In 1986 he moved to Lumberton and entered the University of North Carolina at Pembroke on a music scholarship.  Working for his father on weekends Robert became an intense student, finally realizing just how valuable and expensive a college education could be.  Each semester Robert made the Dean's List and graduated in 1990 cum laude with his Bachelor of Arts in trumpet performance and Bachelor of Science in music education.

In the fall of 1991 Mr. Hunter accepted a general music and band position in Columbus County where he taught for two years.  In 1993 Robert accepted the position as director of bands at Bladenboro High School and Spaulding Monroe Middle School in Bladen County.  Bladenboro was a real "band town" and with the support of his administration Robert was able to attend many conducting clinics and conferences. There he began to make many connections with leading music educators and composers throughout the country.  It was through these connections that he was able to become a protégé to one of the band world's leading figures.  In 1998 Mr. Hunter accepted a graduate assistantship at Indiana University of Pennsylvania to study conducting with Dr. Jack Stamp.  During his time with his mentor Robert grew tremendously as a conductor and teacher, graduating magna cum laude in the Spring of 2000 with a Master of Arts in instrumental conducting.

In the fall of 2000 Mr. Hunter became the director of bands at William G. Enloe Gifted and Talented Magnet High School in Raleigh, where he continues a long tradition of developing fine young musicians and music consumers.  In January of 2004 Robert became music director and conductor of the Triangle Wind Ensemble, one of the finest adult wind ensembles in the Southeastern United States.  Mr. Hunter's most recent appointment came in February of 2006 when he became resident conductor of the Triangle Brass Band, an adult band in the tradition of early 20th century British brass bands.  Robert is married to Jenny and they have two children (dogs), Duke and Bella.  They all live busily but happily in Cary, NC.
